Three-day mourning period for the victims of Hillside Academy begins today

Today begins a three-day national memorial service to commemorate the victims of Hillside Academy.

President William Ruto announced this on Friday.

During this period, the Kenyan national flag and the flag of the East African Community shall fly at half-mast at State House, all Kenyan diplomatic missions, public buildings, public places, all military bases, posts, stations, all naval vessels of the Republic of Kenya and throughout the territory of the Republic of Kenya.

This comes at a time when the search for the missing students is still ongoing.

At least 21 students are known to have died in the fire at the school on the night of Thursday, September 5.

The autopsy is scheduled to begin today.

Deputy IG Masengeli day in court

Acting Inspector General of Police Gilbert Masengeli is due to appear in court today to explain why he failed to comply with court orders following the disappearance of three men in Kitengela.

The judge postponed the case until today last week after activists hijacked the court proceedings.

If Masengeli does not appear, it would be the fourth time that he has ignored a court summons.

Mugambi had on August 28 directed the Inspector General of Police, DPP, AG, DCI and the National Intelligence Service to immediately disclose the whereabouts of Bob Micheni, Jamil Longton and Aslam Longton to the Law Society of Kenya, which has brought the case before the court.
