Hong Kong teacher charged with sexual abuse of 16-year-old girl – YP

Hong Kong education authorities are investigating a teacher accused of sexually abusing a 16-year-old girl in his home two years ago.

The Education Department confirmed to the SCMP on Sunday that the school had submitted a report to the government, promising to hold the teacher accountable if professional misconduct was found.

“In serious cases, the department, after examining various factors in accordance with the Education Ordinance, will revoke the teacher's registration and the teacher will no longer be allowed to teach in the schools,” the department said.

Authorities did not disclose the name of the school.

A social media post by the alleged victim six days ago backed up the allegations with photos of three pages of handwritten notes, sparking outrage among Internet users.

She said the teacher, described as being in his thirties and newly married, attacked her in mid-December 2022 when she visited his home after helping out at a school event. She was 16 at the time.

She accused him of sexually harassing her after she woke up from a nap and said she found it difficult to reject him because of fear.

The girl said police did not press charges against the teacher at the time. She also indicated that she no longer attends the school.

“I was already 16 years old, I did not explicitly reject him, but did it voluntarily and did not know how to protect myself, which led to the incident,” she said.

“I just hoped that the public would pay more attention to the professional conduct of teachers and remind the girls to protect themselves.”

In Hong Kong, it is illegal to have sex with a girl under the age of 16. Violations carry a maximum penalty of five years in prison.

The SCMP has asked the school allegedly involved in the incident for a statement.
