“The Walking Dead” star had to cross personal disgust threshold

“The Walking Dead” star had to cross personal disgust threshold

While filming for “The Walking Dead” spin-off “Dead City,” Jeffrey Dean Morgan exceeded his personal disgust limit – by accident.

The “The Walking Dead” universe continues to grow. While fans are currently eagerly awaiting “Daryl Dixon” season 2, the final shot for “Dead City” season 2 was recently shot. This is something that Negan actor Jeffrey Dean Morgan will be particularly pleased about, as he will probably have very bad memories of a particular day of filming. The reason for this was an oversight on set.

The following teaser trailer provides a first impression of the episodes:

For “Dead City”: Jeffrey Dean Morgan accidentally ate 20 cockroaches

From now on, no one can claim that Jeffrey Dean Morgan wouldn't go to extremes for his appearance in “The Walking Dead: Dead City”. For one scene, he had to – unknowingly, mind you – exceed his own disgust threshold. At first, the actor was reluctant to tell the anecdote in question in an interview with Entertainment Weekly – for fear of looking like “an idiot”. In the end, however, Maggie actress Lauren Cohan persuaded her co-star to tell the story:

“Well, Negan is Negan, he is […] Coincidentally locked up for half his life eating cockroaches. Half the plate I ate was full of real cockroaches because that looks really good on camera. The other half was chocolate. But nobody told me that. And without my glasses I can't see anything, I just saw brown blobs on the plate and when they and when the shot was over I thought, 'That didn't taste like stuffing and chocolate.' I was moaning and everyone was looking at me like I was an idiot. Eventually my legs were sticking out of my teeth and I realized I had eaten cockroaches. Nobody told me there were real cockroaches there at all. That wasn't an option. I was told chocolate and stuffing. No, probably 20 real cockroaches in front of everyone and everyone knew it except me.”

As Cohan and Morgan further explained, it was not the first time that they had come into contact with the little creepy crawlies for “Dead City”. In the first season, there was already a plan to let cockroaches crawl into Negan and Maggie's mouths while the arch-enemy duo sought shelter behind a row of vehicles. At the time, Morgan vehemently rejected this venture – but in the second season he had no choice.

Morgan now takes the incident with humor. If you tune in to MagentaTV for the new episodes, you will probably see this scene with different eyes. A fixed start date is still in sight, but the sequel is expected to in the course of 2025 premiere. Until then, you can test whether you are more like Negan or Maggie:
