5 injured in shooting right outside FMU in Miami Gardens

MIAMI GARDENS, Florida. – Five people were injured in a shooting Saturday night just outside Florida Memorial University in Miami Gardens, police reported Sunday morning.

Police and firefighters responded to the shooting shortly before 10:30 p.m. Saturday at the Omega Activity Center, an FMU fraternity building at the corner of Northwest 156 Street and 42 Avenue.

According to Miami Gardens police, the shooting followed an argument between two people, and officers arrested a suspect. An FMU student from Connecticut who lives nearby said she heard over a dozen gunshots.

Miami-Dade County property records show that the Sigma Alpha Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity owns the property, which is used primarily as a private club or hall. The corner lot is north of the Miami-Opa-locka Executive Airport and west of St. Thomas University.

Investigators asked anyone with information about this or other cases to call Miami-Dade County Crime Stoppers at 305-471-8477.
