Gun license: Police issue notices to 150 gun license holders | News from Pune

The Pune Police had on July 12 registered a case of rioting, threatening and violating the Arms Act against Manorama and six others after a video went viral showing her pointing a licensed .25 Webley & Scott pistol at some farmers during an altercation over a land ownership dispute at Dhadhawali village in Mulshi tehsil on June 5, 2023. Pandharinath Pasalkar, one of these farmers, filed a complaint in this connection.
In the first week of August, city police commissioner Amitesh Kumar cancelled the arms licence issued to Manorama in 2000. Kumar then issued a directive to check whether the licence holders were involved in any illegal activities, misused the arms or violated the conditions.
Up to 6,300 people in the city were issued firearm licenses for personal safety and other reasons.
Examples of misuse of firearms included the Vishrantwadi incident on August 12 when a security guard from Sinhagad Road allegedly carried his licensed air pistol in public and threatened people. On August 22, the police filed a complaint under Section 351 (criminal intimidation) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and sections of the Arms Act against the security guard and his two employers. A real estate developer (31) shot himself dead with his licensed pistol in his office in Narhe on June 9.
