Things appear to be looking positive for the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the Congress, as the two parties are reportedly close to forming an alliance for the upcoming 2024 Haryana assembly elections. After much speculation about their possible collaboration, both parties are now in the process of finalising a seat-sharing agreement that had produced mixed results in previous elections in which they contested together.

According to sources, Congress and AAP have agreed on seat-sharing, with AAP seeking five seats in the 90-member Haryana Assembly. Party sources on Sunday said an alliance between the two parties could be finalised as early as tomorrow.

“Talks between Congress MP Deepak Babaria and AAP leader Raghav Chadha are going positively. There is a high possibility that the alliance will be confirmed by tomorrow. The AAP has agreed to contest on five seats in the state,” an AAP source said.

Significantly, the party source's statement comes after AAP MP Raghav Chadha for the Rajya Sabha had earlier on the same day said that negotiations between the two parties were on a “positive track”.

While admitting that the parties have not yet reached a complete consensus, Chadha was optimistic about the ongoing talks and said they were confident of a positive outcome. He stressed, however, that the AAP would continue with the alliance only if it was a “win-win situation”.

“The talks are taking place in a positive atmosphere. Both parties are working towards contesting the election together, giving top priority to the unity and demands of the people of Haryana and putting aside the ambitions of individual parties and candidates,” Chadha said.

He added: “No detailed comment can be made on the seat allocation arrangement, but both parties hope to form an alliance.”

It is important to note that the Congress and the AAP, partners of the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA), had previously entered into a seat-sharing agreement for the Lok Sabha elections in Delhi, Haryana and Gujarat, but contested the Lok Sabha elections in Punjab independently.
