Apple Watch Series 10 with health improvements

Apple Watch Series 10 with health improvements

Sources familiar with the matter have shared details about the new Apple Watch Series 10 with 9to5Mac. According to them, the smartwatch will have improved health monitoring, larger screens and be able to cope with higher water pressure.

The most interesting changes concern a new ECG and heart rate sensor. This improvement should provide more accurate health readings.

Sleep apnea detection in the watch

It is also intended to detect breathing pauses at night (sleep apnea). This should be of interest to many users, as this disease often remains undetected for a very long time.

Sleep apnea can be associated with sleep disturbances that cause daytime sleepiness, microsleep, and other symptoms and comorbidities. Users may need to wear the device during sleep for several days to receive an evaluation, similar to the Vitals app in watchOS 11.

The report also suggests that Apple may be moving some of the algorithms used to detect atrial fibrillation to the iPhone's Health app rather than processing that data on the watch itself. Why this is the case remains uncertain.

Design changes and new features

The physical dimensions of the Apple Watch Series 10 could also change. The new models will be available in 44 mm and 48 mm sizes. Apple will also reportedly launch watch faces that react to ambient light. One of these is said to be called “Reflections”.

Water resistance is also set to be improved. The Apple Watch Series 9 is suitable for diving up to 50 meters. However, anyone who goes jet skiing, for example, knows that this is sometimes not enough, even on the surface of the water. The Series 10, on the other hand, is said to be certified for high-speed water sports up to a depth of 20 meters – and can also withstand significantly more pressure.

There will reportedly be a new watch face called “Regatta” for buyers of the Hermès edition. Inspired by sailing competitions, this watch face will allow users to start a timer directly from the watch face. Interestingly, this Hermès watch face could also be available for the Apple Watch Ultra, potentially hinting at new Hermès straps designed specifically for the Ultra model.

There will also be a new Apple Watch SE, which will have a plastic case for the first time. The Apple Watch Ultra 3, on the other hand, will keep its current design but have a few new features.

We will find out how much the new Apple Watches cost and what else they can do on Monday, September 9, 2024 from 7 p.m.
