Trump threatens election fraudsters with legal action and prison

Former President Donald Trump threatened to take legal action against those who “cheated” in the election and threaten them with prison sentences if he won the election in November.

In a Truth Social post on Saturday, Trump reportedly condemned “rampant fraud and cheating” in the 2020 election and announced that he would prosecute the alleged cheaters “to the fullest extent of the law,” including “lengthy prison sentences.”

“STOP INVESTIGATING: I, along with many lawyers and legal scholars, am watching the sanctity of the 2024 presidential election very closely because I know better than most how widespread the Democrats' fraud and cheating was in the 2020 presidential election. It was a disgrace to our nation,” he said.

“Therefore, the 2024 elections, where voting has just begun, will be closely monitored by professionals, and IF I WIN, the people who CHEATED will be punished to the fullest extent of the law, which will include long prison sentences, so that this perversion of justice is not repeated,” he continued.

Trump added that the threatened legal action would also extend to “lawyers, political activists, donors, illegal voters and corrupt election officials.”

These comments came after Trump held a rally in Mosinee, Wisconsin, where he made his oft-repeated claim that the 2020 election was stolen.

“We have to stop cheating. If we stop cheating, if we don't let them cheat, I don't even have to campaign anymore, we'll win by so much. In the meantime, it's too big to rig, too big to manipulate,” he said.

Republicans have also made illegal voting a priority this election season, leading the House to pass the SAVE Act in July, which would deter noncitizens from voting by requiring proof of citizenship before voter registration. That bill was introduced by Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) and Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX) after Johnson met with Trump to discuss election integrity concerns.
