Defense focused on “Raider football” against Justin Herbert and the Chargers

Justin Herbert is expected to be a full-time player in the season opener against the Raiders. The Chargers quarterback battled a foot injury during training camp that kept him out of action for several weeks, but he has been back on the practice field for about two weeks and has been a full participant in practice this week.

“I think he's an All-Pro level player,” Nate Hobbs said. “I think he's a great player, I enjoy playing against him. It's always a great game. … He's a great quarterback.”

Herbert has rushed for 2,206 yards and 15 touchdowns in his career against the Silver and Black, so the Raiders' defensive unit is very aware that they will all have to pull together to limit him.

“Knock [expletive] “Go back, get out of the blocks and make tackles. It's that simple,” Robert Spillane said of the defense's pregame mentality. “Win your one-on-ones and make plays. There are great players in this league every week. We have great players on our side of the ball. We have to focus on playing Raider football and then good things will happen.”
