Pedestrian, 76, dies of injuries after collision

A 76-year-old pedestrian died from her injuries after being hit by a car in San Marcos, authorities said Saturday.

According to the San Diego County Sheriff's Department, the accident occurred around 9:10 p.m. Friday near the intersection of South Twin Oaks Valley Road and Shubin Lane.

“A white Toyota Camry driven by a female driver was traveling south on S. Twin Oaks Valley Road when she struck the 76-year-old pedestrian,” the department reported in a statement.

The victim was taken by paramedics to the trauma unit of Palomar Medical Center due to serious injuries, where he died shortly thereafter.

The driver remained at the scene, where department officials stated that alcohol was not a factor in the accident.

The identity of the victim and the driver was not immediately known and the cause of the accident was unclear.
