2-year-old boy stabbed to death by older brother in Chicago-area home, police report

JOLIET, Illinois – A 2-year-old boy was stabbed to death by his 6-year-old brother in Joliet, Illinois, police said.

The child suffered multiple stab wounds from a kitchen knife in a home Friday afternoon and was later pronounced dead at a hospital, Joliet police said.

Her mother called 911 and told police she was at home at the time of the stabbing but was in another room, WLS-TV reported Saturday.

“Everyone in this incident is a victim,” Joliet Police Sergeant Dwayne English told reporters. “We're always looking for why. Those are answers we hope to get, but may never get, just because of some of the difficulties that accompany the investigation.”

The Department of Children and Family Services has been notified and the victim's family is cooperating with investigators, police said.

Joliet is located southwest of Chicago.
