The second US presidential debate will take place next Tuesday and it will be the first time that Donald Trump and Kamala Harris will face each other.

The presidential debates are watched by many on television and have a major influence on Americans’ voting decisions.

Kamala Harris is considered the best debater, but Donald Trump also showed in the 2016 and 2020 presidential debates that she is his great rival.

Would the presidential debate be and what would the rules be?

The debate will take place on September 10th in Philadelphia. It begins at 9 p.m. Eastern Time.

This is the second presidential debate of 2024. The first was scheduled to take place in June between Donald Trump and President Joe Biden, as he had decided to drop out of the race.

The debate will be broadcast live on ABC and ABC News Live and can be streamed on Wednesday on Disney+ and Hulu.

There are strict time limits. Each candidate has a maximum of two minutes to answer questions from the moderators and two minutes to answer questions from their opponents.

Candidates' microphones are muted when they speak and the audience is muted in the debate room.

Ms Harris wanted the microphones to be live at all times, but recently agreed to this rule.

They were introduced four years ago after interruptions and arguments broke out during the first debate between Mr Trump and Mr Biden.

Tuesday's debate will be moderated by two moderators, David Muir and Linsey Davis, who both present news programs on ABC.

Kamala Harris has not participated in election debates since 2003, when she won the race for San Francisco district attorney.

She also participated in debates as part of her successful campaigns for election as Attorney General of California and U.S. Senator for California.

In 2019, she debated Joe Biden for the Democratic presidential nomination and in 2020, she faced Mike Pence in the vice presidential debate.

She did not say she could take control of the stage. During the debate with Mr. Pence in 2020, she was annoyed by Mr. Pence because he interrupted her by saying, “Mr. Vice President, I am speaking.”

Ms. Harris has extensive experience as a debater for the U.S. Senate and as a prosecutor in California courts. One of her most important skills is pointing out weaknesses in her opponent's argument.

This will benefit her when she refutes Donald Trump’s arguments in the debate.

However, Ms Harris failed in her attempt to become the Democratic presidential candidate in 2020, as she was eliminated in her first race in Iowa. One criticism is that she does not represent consistent policy positions.

At Tuesday's debate, Ms Harris will likely have to answer several difficult questions about her policies from the moderators.

Mrs Harris also speaks very loudly in public.

For example, in a recent CNN interview, she said, “There is no urgency to apply standards that imply that we adhere to the time and deadline requirements.”

In presidential debates, speaking time is limited and campaign messages do not reach voters clearly.

Tuesday's debate against Mr Trump could be the biggest challenge Ms Harris has faced since entering the race.

E don participated in two presidential debates, in 2016 and 2020, and proved to be a very confrontational and old-fashioned opponent.

At the debates against Hillary Clinton in 2016, he walked around the stage and stood directly behind her while she spoke, saying it “gave her goosebumps.”

During the first of the 2020 presidential debates, Joe Biden was constantly interrupted and shouted: “Shut up, man?”

This tactic allowed us to stop our opponents and keep them in the spotlight.

However, Mr Trump sometimes strays from the topic in debates and makes statements that fact-checkers say are untrue.

Which candidate is ahead in the polls?

Although he ran for president during his re-election last July, Joe Biden trailed Donald Trump in polls nationally and in several swing states.

According to RealClearPolitics, a political analysis organization that averages national opinion polls, Harris has not become more popular than Trump since she accepted the Democratic nomination.

He said she was 1.9 points ahead of Trump nationwide on September 3.

However, Hillary Clinton is ahead by five percentage points in the 2016 national polls and still loses the election to Mr Trump.

Intrastate polls are considered more important than national polls. This is because the election results in each state determine the number of electoral college votes a candidate receives, and the electoral college, in turn, decides who becomes president.

There are some swing states like Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, North Carolina and Pennsylvania that are important for the candidates’ victory.

Despite all this, the races are very close.

According to RealClearPolitics, Harris managed to overtake Trump in the polls in Michigan and Georgia in early September. She is tied with him in Pennsylvania, but still lags behind in Arizona and North Carolina.

Political analysts agree that the outcome of the election is too uncertain to make a prediction.

A candidate needs 270 electoral college votes to win the presidency. Current polls show Democrats have 226 electoral college votes secured, Republicans have 219, and the remaining 93 votes could go to anyone.
