FALLS CREEK BOROUGH, Pa. (EYT) – Police say a Centre County man is behind bars for allegedly sexually abusing a young boy in Falls Creek Borough.

Court documents show that DuBois-based state police have filed charges against the 19-year-old Steven Christopher McGovernof Boalsburg, Centre County, in the office of District Judge David Inzana on Wednesday, September 4.

According to the criminal complaint, the investigation was assigned to Police Officer Carol Strishock on February 2, 2024. On February 12, a forensic interview was conducted with a young male victim.

The victim stated that sexual abuse was committed by Steven McGovernsays the complaint.

During the interview, the victim described in detail sexual incidents that began on January 5, 2024. According to the complaint, the victim described various sexually explicit incidents that were forced upon him by McGovern.

McGovern was 18 years old when the incident occurred, the complaint states.

On March 27, the case was reassigned to Officer Michael Dandrea, who interviewed McGovern on August 16. During the interview, McGovern allegedly admitted to performing certain sexual acts on the victim, but denied other specific allegations, the complaint states.

McGovern stated that the incidents occurred at a residence in Falls Creek Borough in Jefferson County, the complaint states.

He was arraigned on Wednesday, September 4, at 1:30 p.m. before Judge Inzana on the following charges:

  • Criminal Attempt – Rape of a Child, Crime 1
  • Unauthorized contact with minors – sexual offenses, crimes 1
  • Involuntary deviant sexual intercourse with a child, offense 1
  • Incest with minors – plaintiff under 13 years of age, offense 2
  • Indecent Assault on a Person Under 13 Years of Age, Serious Crime 3 (three counts)
  • Corruption of minors – defendant 18 years or older, offense 3

Since he was unable to raise the $100,000.00 bail, he was placed in the Jefferson County Jail.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for September 10 at 12:30 p.m., presided over by Judge Inzana.
