Shortly before the planned wine festival of the youth club in Ismaning, a devastating fire broke out in an event hall during the night. The wooden hall was quickly completely destroyed, and the damage amounts to around one million euros. Over 150 emergency services were involved. Rail traffic was also affected.

Ismaning/Munich – On Saturday night, the fire brigade was called to a major fire in Ismaning (Munich district) that caused considerable damage. According to the police, an event hall built of wood quickly burned down completely. The material damage is estimated at around one million euros. The cause of the fire is still unknown.

Over 150 emergency personnel on site

The alarm was received at the Munich district fire department's operations center at 1:22 a.m. When the emergency services arrived later, the 800 square meter hall was already fully ablaze. The alarm level was raised immediately, and a total of around 152 emergency services were mobilized. In addition to the Ismaning fire department, fire departments from Garching, Unterföhring, Heimstetten, Feldkirchen and Aschheim were also deployed. They were supported by units from the Federal Agency for Technical Relief (THW) and the ABC unit Munich Land.

Railway line closed for 40 minutes

The fire was located in the immediate vicinity of an S-Bahn line, which led to further safety measures. An emergency manager from Deutsche Bahn was also called to the scene. To ensure the safety of passengers, the line was temporarily closed and the power was switched off. Two trains heading towards Munich Airport were affected: one was delayed, the other had to turn around early. The line was reopened after around 40 minutes.

Despite the intensive fire-fighting efforts, it took almost an hour to bring the fire under control. At 2:19 a.m., the operations management reported “fire under control,” and just a few minutes later, at 2:33 a.m., the fire was out. However, the follow-up fire-fighting efforts dragged on because the hall had collapsed due to the fire and the Munich district's emergency rescue vehicle (EHF) was helping with the clean-up work.

Cause of fire still unclear

The investigation into the cause of the major fire is ongoing. The police have no clues as to how the fire broke out. The only thing that is clear is that the fire brigade's rapid intervention prevented the fire from spreading.

Fortunately, no one was injured in the fire. However, the financial damage is enormous and is estimated at around one million euros. The local community is now faced with the challenge of coping with the loss of the event hall, which was used for numerous festivals.
