Andrew Tate says he will use his Irish passport to vote for Conor McGregor as president

Andrew Tate has declared on social media that he will use his Irish passport to vote for Conor McGregor as Irish President.

The controversial internet star and his brother were arrested near Bucharest in December 2022 along with two Romanian women. They were accused of human trafficking, rape and forming a criminal gang for the sexual exploitation of women.

The brothers are currently under house arrest in Romania. On Thursday, they learned in a Romanian court that the prosecutor's request to send them to prison had been rejected.

Despite his ongoing legal case, Tate X, formerly known as Twitter, used to express his support for MMA fighter McGregor's apparent bid to become the next President of Ireland.

“My grandfather is from Limerick. I have an Irish passport. I will vote for you. We must do something before it is too late,” he said.

Former Big Brother contestant Tate previously revealed that he is “a quarter Irish” as his grandfather is from Limerick, and said he is currently “tempted to move to Ireland”.

McGregor announced his intention to be Ireland's next president in a lengthy post on Thursday, criticising the government for spending on a new bike shed in the Dáil.

“As President, I have the power to summon and dissolve the Dáil. As I have said, I will have all the answers that the Irish people seek from these thieves of the working man, these destroyers of the family unit, these destroyers of small businesses and so on and so forth.

“These charlatans in positions of power would be summoned to answer to the Irish people and I would do that by the end of the day. Or I would have no choice but to dissolve the Dáil entirely.

“Stop the train until. The people of Ireland deserve the answers they seek. Absolutely. That would be my power as President. I know it very well. Ireland needs an active President, appointed entirely by the Irish people,” he said.

McGregor added: “That's me. I'm the only logical choice. 2025 is just around the corner.”

Although McGregor is eligible to stand as he is one year over the minimum age of 35 and is resident in Ireland, he would need to be nominated by at least 20 members of the Oireachtas and four local authorities to stand.
