BEIJING, Sept. 7 (Xinhua) — Chinese President Xi Jinping has called for stepped up disaster relief efforts after super typhoon Yagi hit the country's southern region.

Yagi, the 11th typhoon of the year, hit Hainan and Guangdong provinces on Friday, killing three people and injuring 95 others.

Xi, also general secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and chairman of the Central Military Commission, called for efforts to ensure the safety of people's lives and property.

He called for mobilising rescue efforts, managing the relocation and resettlement of the affected people well, preventing secondary disasters and doing everything possible to minimise the number of casualties.

Xi also urged rapid repair of damaged infrastructure, including transportation, power and communications systems, and called for active post-disaster reconstruction to restore normal life and work as soon as possible.
