At the very end of Aslı Özarslan's drama elbow the main character Hazal leaves her audience with a look that will not be forgotten for a long time. In the final sequence, she stands on the Bosporus, breathing heavily, seemingly letting go of everything she has experienced in the past hour and a half of the film. Then she looks into the camera, for a few endless seconds, disappointed and fed up, but also unwaveringly rebellious, an expression somewhere between “Are you happy now?” and “Don't look so stupid, otherwise you'll get a beating.” Accusation, declaration of war, sigh of relief, this film is all of that.
