Bahraich district administration builds shelters to protect villagers from wolf attacks

Bahraich (Uttar Pradesh) [India]September 7 (ANI): Following wolf attacks, the Bahraich district administration has constructed temporary shelters to protect the villagers from the menace. The district administration has converted the previously constructed Panchayat Bhawan into a temporary shelter.

In Chandpaiya village in Mahasi tehsil of Bahraich, the administration has converted the Panchayat Bhawan into a homeless shelter so that the villagers who do not have a home or a house with wooden doors can find refuge in these sheltered accommodations.

Many people live in these sheltered houses because they are afraid of wolves and their houses are in a dilapidated condition. The residents of the Panchayat Bhawan shelter house narrated their ordeal about the fear of wolves that had spread in the village when they were forced to leave their homes and live here.

The elderly people living in the shelter said they moved to this safe place out of fear of wolf attacks.

“Our houses have become dilapidated and we have had to seek shelter here,” said an elderly villager. “Two days ago a wolf was spotted here at night and last month a woman was attacked and treated in hospital,” he said.

The home's director said, “Arrangements have been made for the villagers here. Seven to eight people are staying here. Some have been staying here for five days and some for 10 days. As the number of people continues to rise, more arrangements are being made. They are staying here out of fear and because of the poor condition of their houses. Here, the MPs and panchayat officials are taking care of them. There is adequate drinking water and toilets.” In Bahraich, the search operation is underway to hunt down the remaining two 'killer wolves'. Four wolves have been caught so far. Drone footage from Harbaksh Purwa village on Saturday morning showed a huge stretch of farmland under surveillance.

On Saturday morning, forest officials conducted a search operation two to three kilometres from Harbaksh Purwa to capture the wolf that was spotted here on Friday evening with the help of thermal imaging drones.

The search for the ‘man-eating’ wolves in Bahraich has been intensified, the entire area has been divided into four sectors and continuous surveillance is underway.

The affected area of 30 to 35 kilometers was divided into four sectors. 165 forest workers, including senior officials, were deployed for the search operation.

The Forest Department, Police Department and District Administration have established a joint procedure to conduct night patrols in the affected areas so that no incidents occurred at night.

Sanjay Pathak, Director General of the Forest Department, said that the forest officials and other officials have been put on alert after the casualties were reported. “The forest officials and other officials have been put on alert after the casualties were reported. Drones are being used to catch the wolves. Four wolves have been caught so far and cameras have been installed everywhere to track the wolves,” Pathak said. (ANI)
