Woman reportedly stabbed to death at Maxwell Food Centre; man to be charged with murder, Singapore News

A 41-year-old man was arrested for allegedly stabbing a 48-year-old woman to death.

The alleged murder occurred at around 1am today at the Maxwell Food Centre.

The suspect is believed to be Mr Wu Tau, a vendor who ran a Chinese-Thai stall called Dao Xiang Ju, and the deceased was Ms Kamonwan, a vendor who ran a Thai stall nearby.

Another vendor at the food mall told Shin Min Daily News that the man and woman opened Dao Xiang Ju together about a year ago and Ms Kamonwan apparently invested a large sum of money in the stall.

About a month ago, she started selling Thai food three stalls away from Dao Xiang Ju.

It is not known what became of the partnership between Mr Wu and Ms Kamonwan. The salesman told the Chinese daily that the two were never seen arguing in the food center.

Other vendors said they did not notice anything unusual when they left the food centre at 11pm on September 6. They only learned of the incident when they arrived at 7.30am the next day, by which time Ms Kamonwan's body had already been taken away.

According to Shin Min Daily News, Mr Wu allegedly dragged Ms Kamonwan from her stall to his and allegedly stabbed her in the stomach with a knife. He then apparently threw the weapon into a trash can.

According to reports, a cleaner found Ms. Kamonwan lying on the stall and called the police.

Police confirmed the arrest of a 41-year-old man for his suspected involvement in the murder of a 48-year-old woman.

The man was arrested at the Bukit Merah East Neighbourhood Police Centre at 1.36am on September 7 after telling officers there that he had stabbed a woman to death.

The officers found the woman lying motionless in the food center. The paramedics pronounced her dead at the scene of the accident.

Initial investigations revealed that the two parties knew each other.

The man will be tried for murder on September 8 and will face death if found guilty.
