Who will be the halftime reporter at the Green Bay Packers game in Brazil on Friday?

Brazilian pop-funk superstar Anitta was announced by the NFL last month.

In a Billboard report, Seth Dudowsky, the NFL's music chief, said the organization wanted to create a “spectacle” that “matches the level of quality expected from an NFL event” while also taking into account the culture of each venue.

“The most authentic way to do that is to work with artists and performers who come from those places,” he told Billboard. “Artists who were not only a face of Brazilian music and what it represents around the world, but also an icon in America. … When we talked about artists we wanted to work with, Anitta was at the top of the list.”

The league's first game in South America will take place on Friday when the Pack takes on the Philadelphia Eagles, which will also be the opening game of the 2024 regular season for both teams.

Who is Anitta?

According to National Public Radio, global superstar Anitta, aka Larissa de Macedo Machado, comes from an impoverished neighborhood of Honório Gurgel in Rio de Janeiro.

Although Anitta calls herself a “girl from Rio,” she is considered the “Queen of Brazilian Pop” and is one of the country’s biggest music stars.

Her accolades include a Grammy nomination for Best New Artist and eight Latin Grammy nominations. According to The Hollywood Reporter, she has been nominated for three MTV Video Music Awards this year, including Best Latin, which she has won twice. The awards ceremony will take place on September 11. She will also take the stage at the VMAs for the third year in a row and deliver a star-studded performance.

In 2020, Netflix released a docuseries about the superstar called “Anitta: Made In Honório,” which is about “fame, family and her tireless work ethic.”

This spring, Anitta released her sixth studio album “Funk Generation”.

However, her music video for “Aceita” from that album drew heavy criticism for addressing ongoing religious intolerance and racism in Brazil, reported the New York Times. The video depicts the practices of Anitta's faith, Candomblé, an Afro-Brazilian religion that was overshadowed for centuries. However, many praised the artist for paying tribute to the religion.
