New CISF chief calls for drone expertise in Manipur attacks – The Sangai Express

NEW DELHI, 6 September
The drone attack by suspected Kuki militia groups on civilians and armed forces in Manipur has prompted other armed forces to look into the issue. In fact, various armed forces have been looking for drone expert agencies. Interestingly, the new Director General of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), Rajwinder Singh Bhatti, in the first meeting after assuming office, asked the armed forces officials to appoint an agency with drone expertise.
The meeting came a day after Manipur suffered unprecedented drone attacks by militants. According to an official release accessed by News18, Bhatti also inquired about the role of the CISF in dealing with drone or UAV attacks in a high-level meeting. The Director General asked if dealing with drone or aerial threats was part of their mandate and sought information on the rules and specific provisions on the subject.
Following a major security lapse, the CISF recently took over the security of Parliament. The force has taken over the responsibility from the CRPF and the Delhi Police. In addition, the CISF secures almost all major airports, including those in Delhi, Mumbai and Bangalore, as well as ministries such as the Home Ministry and the External Affairs Ministry. The force also protects various dams and other important installations, all of which are at risk of air strikes.
Besides the CISF, the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) is also gearing up for anti-drone and UAV technologies. The CRPF is testing and researching high-tech, AI-powered UAVs for use in Jammu and Kashmir and against Naxalites in the wake of a series of terror attacks. The largest Central Armed Police Force, the CRPF, is also looking for anti-drone technology for Jammu and Kashmir.
INDIAN-ISRAELI SEMINAR ON THE DRONE THREAT
Meanwhile, in response to the Manipur attack, the Israeli and Indian Defense Ministries, along with other stakeholders, held a seminar in Delhi to enhance security cooperation between Israel and India in combating drone threats. During the seminar, Israel shared its operational experience and advanced technological capabilities with India to strengthen security cooperation between the two countries. The seminar focused on the growing threat posed by drones, both from a security and criminal perspective, as these drones can be used for intelligence gathering, transporting weapons and carrying out precision strikes.
