4-year-old girl killed in pit bull attack identified

VISALIA, Calif. (FOX26) — UPDATE: The 4-year-old girl who died in the attack has been identified by family as Zoey Hawkins.

The family reached out and shared photos of Zoey.

According to Visalia police, a four-year-old girl died after being attacked by the family dog.

Police were called to a home in the 2300 block of West Monte Vista Avenue Wednesday evening because a child had been attacked by a pit bull.

Police learned that the girl had just finished swimming and was inside the house when the incident occurred.

The child was immediately given medical attention and taken to the hospital.

According to police, the girl succumbed to her injuries.

The Visalia Police Department's Violent Crimes Division investigated and found no evidence of criminal misconduct or negligence.
