Police say two dead children were found in a vehicle in Oklahoma

NORMAN, Okla. (AP) — Police in Oklahoma said Friday that two 2-year-old children were found dead in a car after they were accidentally left there.

The two were found around 3 p.m. Thursday by officers responding to a request to search the vehicle that had stopped on a road in Norman, Oklahoma, police spokeswoman Sarah Schettler said in a news release. Norman is about 19 miles south of Oklahoma City.

“Initial investigations indicate that the two children were accidentally left in the vehicle for a long period of time,” said Schettler.

Police were unable to determine the identity of the children who left the pictures in the vehicle or how long they were in the vehicle.

Schettler did not immediately respond to calls and emails requesting further information.

Police said the children's bodies had been sent to the state medical examiner's office to determine the cause of death.

According to National Weather Service records, the temperature was about 90 degrees Fahrenheit and the sky was clear when the children were found.

The weather service states that if the outside temperature is 31 degrees Celsius, the temperature in the vehicle can rise to over 49 degrees Celsius within 30 minutes.
