The accident took place late yesterday evening, shortly after 11 p.m., when an 18-year-old VW driver was driving along Glemseckstrasse towards the city center.

As the police announced on Friday, they failed to see a 70-year-old VW Touran driver rushing towards them from the right at the intersection with Ramtelstrasse, driving out of town, after which a collision could no longer be prevented.

The force of the collision hurled the two vehicles onto a traffic island, where a traffic sign was torn from its anchorage.

The traffic lights were out of order at the time of the accident. A 19-year-old passenger in the VW and a 72-year-old passenger in the VW Touran sustained minor injuries.

For the 72-year-old, the evening ended in hospital. Both cars were no longer drivable and had to be towed away. The material damage is estimated at around 35,000 euros.
