New Delhi, Sept 6 (PTI) – An 11-year-old public school student was allegedly sexually assaulted by a self-defence trainer in her classroom in Sultanpuri area on the outskirts of Delhi on Friday, sparking protests, police said.

The police arrested the accused Satish (45), who was giving free self-defense courses through an NGO, it was said. He was not a regular teacher at the school.

According to the victim's father, his daughter called him in the afternoon and told him that her sports teacher had touched her inappropriately and threatened her during class.

He further said that they had contacted the school principal and also informed the local police about the matter.

Police said they received reports of sexual harassment by a school teacher at 12:12 p.m. on Friday.

A case under Section 351 (criminal intimidation) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act has been registered at Sultanpuri police station. Counselling and medical examination are underway, police said.
