Amazon gives green light: Action hit “Reacher” gets spin-off series

The first two seasons of “Reacher” thrilled Prime Video audiences. Now Amazon is working on building up the universe with a spin-off.

After Tom Cruise played the taciturn investigator Jack Reacher in two feature films in the 2010s, he followed up in 2022 with “Reachers” a new interpretation with Alan Ritchson in the press. The Prime Video production adapted Lee Child's book not as a feature film series, but as a series and has so far dedicated a season to each book (in non-chronological order).

While the first season is based on the book “Megalomania” and the second on “Trouble”, the series creators have chosen “The Janus Man” as the literary work for “Reacher” season 3. In total, Lee Child's “Reacher” universe includes 28 novels, so Amazon has enough material for numerous further seasons.

Nevertheless, the streaming service has decided not to stick exclusively to the novels when expanding the “Reacher” universe. As Variety reports, a spin-off series is currently being worked on that is not based on any literary source material.

“Reacher” spin-off by Frances Neagley

According to initial reports, the spin-off, which has no title yet, will revolve around Frances Neagley, who was played by the Danish actress Maria Sten (“Straight Outta Compton”). The fictional character appears in four “Reacher” novels, but never received his own literary spin-off.

The fact that Amazon is continuing to expand the universe will come as a surprise to very few viewers. Even though “Reacher” Season 2 received a little criticism, the first two seasons were able to gather a huge audience in front of their receivers and dominated the Prime Video charts for weeks. “Reacher” Season 3 was also confirmed before the second season was even available to stream.
