Watch live outside the courthouse as Trump appeals his first defeat against E. Jean Carroll

Watch live from New York on Friday, September 6, as Donald Trump's lawyers ask a federal appeals court to overturn a $5 million jury verdict that found Trump guilty of sexually harassing and defaming writer E. Jean Carroll, who accused Trump of raping her nearly three decades ago.

The Republican presidential candidate is expected to attend oral arguments before a three-judge panel of the 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Manhattan.

All three judges were appointed by Democratic presidents.

Trump is appealing a May 2023 civil judgment concerning his alleged encounter with Carroll in a dressing room at the Bergdorf Goodman department store in Manhattan in the mid-1990s, as well as an October 2022 post on the Truth social media page in which he called Carroll's claim a hoax.

The jury awarded the former advice columnist for Elle magazine $2.02 million and $2.98 million respectively for her allegations of sexual assault and defamation.

Another jury in January ordered Trump to pay Carroll $83.3 million for defaming her and damaging her reputation in June 2019 after she first accused him of rape.
