Sara Sharif's father, stepmother and uncle will appear in court on charges related to the murder of a 10-year-old child who was found dead at home. The trial is set for October.

The father, stepmother and uncle accused of murdering 10-year-old Sara Sharif in her Surrey home appeared in court today – and their trial date has now been set.

Urfan Sharif, 42, is accused along with his partner Beinash Batool, 29, and his brother Faisal Malik, 28, of killing the teenager, whose body was discovered in her home in Woking, Surrey, on August 10 last year.

The trio, who had flown to Pakistan the day before Sara's body was found with “multiple and serious injuries”, were arrested at Gatwick Airport on September 13 as they disembarked from a plane from Dubai.

They deny murdering Sara on or about August 8, 2023, and causing or permitting the death of a child between December 16, 2022, and August 9, 2023.

Today it was confirmed at the Old Bailey that the trio will face trial on October 7.

The trial will be presided over by High Court Judge Justice Cavanagh and is expected to last up to seven weeks.

Prosecutors had previously told the Old Bailey that Sara had been found to have “a number of healed and healing injuries”, while an autopsy had shown that she had suffered “multiple and serious injuries” over a “sustained and prolonged” period.

The day before her body was discovered, the three accused had left the UK for Pakistan with five children. They returned to the UK on 13 September and were arrested upon landing at Gatwick Airport.

Prosecutor Giles Bedloe had previously stated: “The defendants are charged with the murder of ten-year-old Sara Sharif and the offence of allowing her death.”

“In the upstairs bedroom, officers present pulled back the covers on a bunk bed and found the body of a young girl.”

“She was lying fully clothed, face up in the middle of the bed.”

“Sara has suffered numerous injuries – a healed fracture of a collarbone, several broken ribs, numerous bruises to the torso and limbs, and a brain hemorrhage.”

“There were several healing fractures in various parts of the body, suggesting multiple acts of violence over a period of time that likely led to her death.”

Sara's mother, Olga Sharif, visited the £550,000 brick house in the village of Horsell five days after her daughter's death to lay flowers in her memory.

The young girl was previously a pupil at St. Mary's Church of England Primary School in Byfleet.
