The 14-year-old accused in the shooting at a Georgia high school that killed four people and rocked a rural community outside Atlanta is scheduled to appear in court Friday morning as his father faces multiple charges in connection with the attack.

Officials say the suspect, Colt Gray, brought an AR-style weapon to Apalachee High School and opened fire, fatally shooting two math teachers and two 14-year-old students. Eight other students and a teacher were injured and are expected to make a full recovery.

The suspect, who turned himself in after the confrontation with police officers, has been charged with four counts of first-degree murder. His initial appearance is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. in Barrow County District Court.

On Thursday, authorities took the suspect's 54-year-old father, Colin Gray, into custody. He faces multiple charges in connection with the attack, including manslaughter and two counts of first-degree murder. It is the latest case of parents facing criminal charges for shootings committed by their children.

“These charges are based on Mr. Gray knowingly allowing his son, Colt, to possess a firearm,” said Chris Hosey, director of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, at a press conference on Thursday evening. It is unclear whether father and son already have legal representation.

The attack came less than a month after the start of school and plunged the town of Winder, about 50 miles northeast of Atlanta, into mourning as students, parents and residents alike grapple with the worst school massacre in the United States in more than a year.

15-year-old arrested after allegedly threatening to “finish the job”

A 15-year-old student was arrested Wednesday after investigators said the teenager referenced the Apalachee High School shooting and promised to “finish the attack on another school in Jackson County.”

Jackson County Sheriff Janis Mangum said Thursday the threat was made on a school bus. She said there were witnesses to the threat and the teen was tracked down and taken to the sheriff's office for questioning.

The teenager was subsequently charged and placed at the Regional Youth Detention Center in Gainesville, the same facility where the suspect in the Apalachee High School shooting is being held.
