RTL is introducing new obstacles and final rules in the next season of “Top Dog Germany”. Laura Wontorra will be hosting with two other top presenters.

Dortmund – Dog fans watch out! The popular RTL show “Top Dog Germany” with Laura Wontorra (35) is entering the next round and will once again provide animal action on Friday evenings. With a few new features, RTL is taking the fourth season to a new level, as RUHR24 reports.

Laura Wontorra moderates: RTL show “Top Dog Germany” continues with new rules

Who doesn't know it – watching dogs play and romp around for hours on end is fun. For all dog owners and dog fans, RTL is bringing “Top Dog Germany” back to the TV schedule with a new season.

But it's not just the four-legged friends who provide entertainment here. The tried and tested presenter trio consisting of Jan Köppen (41), Frank “Buschi” Buschmann (59) and Laura Wontorra are also likely to provide a few laughs.

RTL: Köppen, Buschi and Wontorra lead the new “Top Dog Germany” season

After “Buschi”, probably Germany's best-known sports presenter, announced his plans for a longer break from the media, some viewers will be happy to see him on TV. In the fourth season, Laura Wontorra will once again capture the atmosphere directly from the course as a field reporter – after taking a long break for a season.

Whether it's a lively terrier, an impressive German shepherd or a hyperactive Border Collie – the RTL primetime show focuses on the perfect interaction between dog and owner. Things get a little more exotic, but also wild, with Jan Köppen in the 2025 jungle camp.

Innovations in the RTL show: Other obstacles and final rules for “Top Dog Germany”

While the four-legged friends race across the course, their owners must guide them through the challenges with skill and trust. The new season brings with it seven new obstacles and a completely new final duel that will decide the winner.

Another new feature is that the teams have a choice of courses. Do you risk a faster but more dangerous route or do you choose the safer but longer route? This requires tactical planning and the correct assessment of your own dog.

Dogs as entertainment? This is how RTL ensures the health and well-being of the animals in “Top Dog Germany”

Agility trainer Jan Dießner is once again providing the necessary expertise this season. He developed the course in close cooperation with those responsible to ensure the welfare of the animals. During the show, he is not only on hand as a referee, but also gives valuable tips on dog training and comments on the teams' performances.

The spectators can also learn something about dogs. Dr. Tanja Pollmüller, better known as Doc Polly, is also there again. As usual, the veterinarian and blogger took care of the health of the animal participants. Only dogs that pass her strict “dog MOT” are allowed to take part.

RTL show changes rules to decide winner: New final duel at “Top Dog Germany”

In the four preliminary round shows, the teams fight for a place in the grand finale and a prize of 5,000 euros. 1,000 euros of this will be donated to an animal welfare organization. The winner can choose which one they donate.

The preliminary rounds consist of two stages, with the seven fastest teams from Stage 1 moving on to the next course (Stage 2). The best three teams from the second stage then qualify for the final (read more TV news at RUHR24).

Things get really serious in the final: The three fastest duos compete against each other in a triel course to win the title of “Top Dog Germany” and prize money of 25,000 euros, of which 5,000 euros will also be donated to a good cause.

The best little dogs also get an extra chance in the final and can win the title “Last Shorty Standing” and 5,000 euros. The fourth season starts on September 6th as usual on Fridays at 8:15 p.m. on RTL. If you don't want to wait until the TV broadcast, you can watch the new episodes a week beforehand on RTL+.
