Gordon Ramsay reveals the true cause of his horrific bike crash that left him looking like a ‘purple potato’

Gordon Ramsay has finally spoken about the cause of his horrific cycling accident in which he suffered painful injuries.

Earlier this year, 57-year-old Ramsay revealed that he suffered some severe bruises in a bicycle accident in Connecticut.

Fortunately, the accident did not leave any serious or life-changing injuries, but the Kitchen nightmares The star was left quite shaken by this, sharing his nasty bruises in a video clip and urging his followers to take cyclist safety seriously. He even posted a picture of his crushed helmet to reinforce the message of cycling safety.

“I don't care how short the trip is… I don't care that they cost money, they're crucial,” Ramsay said, crediting his helmet with saving his life.

He added: “I'm lucky to be standing here. I'm in pain, it's been a brutal week. I'm getting through it somehow, but I can't tell you how important it is to wear a helmet.”

In an interview with Men's Health magazine, the chef spoke in detail about his accident and revealed what exactly happened on that fateful day.

Ramsay explained that he was riding downhill when the front wheel of his bike got stuck in a pothole, causing him and the bike to spin 180 degrees in the air. He was likely shaken by what had just happened and tried to fix his bike and carry on.

Only then did he realize that his helmet was completely broken and he was bleeding.

“I really thought I was going to faint,” said the 57-year-old.

After informing his assistant of the accident, Ramsay was taken to hospital for a check-up, where thankfully he suffered no broken bones. His injuries appeared to be limited to swelling and the huge “purple potato” bruise visible on the left side of his torso in the video he uploaded to social media.

Although he was fortunate not to suffer any life-changing injuries, Ramsay was in severe pain over the following weeks and relied on the help of his assistant, Justin Mandel, for tasks such as getting dressed in the morning.

“I couldn't even put on my damn socks and pants. Justin [Mandel]he always dressed me in the morning,” he remembers.

“I felt like a 95-year-old fucking man. Asking a 30-year-old boy to put on my fucking underwear was embarrassing.”

Ramsay added that after the accident he received daily lymphatic drainage massages to reduce swelling.
