Crime in New Westminster: 2 people charged with kidnapping

Two men have been charged following an alleged kidnapping and assault in New Westminster last month, according to authorities, who are appealing for more information in the case.

On the morning of August 17, officers received “credible information that a New Westminster resident had been abducted,” the agency said in a press release on Thursday. Several police departments and special units assisted in the subsequent investigation, including the anti-gang unit and the emergency response team.

The victim was found within 24 hours and taken to hospital. Police did not release any further information about the victim or his injuries.

“We were deeply concerned for the safety of this individual,” said Sergeant Andrew Leaver. “Time is of the essence in kidnapping investigations and thanks to the hard work and expertise of numerous police teams, we were able to locate the victim and arrest the suspects.”

Richard Favel, 38, was charged with threats, assault and assault with a weapon. Jess Hereemma, 45, was charged with threats and assault with a weapon.

Investigators are asking anyone who observed “suspicious activity” in the 500 block of Front Street on the evening of August 16 to call the Major Crimes Unit at 604-529-2430.
