Three injured after attack in Providence

Providence police investigated a crime scene on Broad Street around 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 4. (WLNE)

PROVIDENCE, RI (WLNE) — Three people were injured on Broad Street in Providence Wednesday evening.

Jillian Zelano, 39, was charged with simple assault after she got into an argument with a man and allegedly hit him.

Zelano is said to have stabbed two people with a box cutter when she tried to defend herself because they tried to attack her and take her phone.

According to police, charges have been filed against one of the defendants, 41-year-old Kyle Spurgeon.

According to police, he hit Zelano with a blunt object he took from his car.

Spurgeon was subsequently taken into custody at RI Hospital and charged with robbery, aggravated assault and conspiracy.

According to police, none of those involved suffered life-threatening injuries.
