A woman claims she was harassed and physically assaulted by an auto driver in Bengaluru after she cancelled a ride booked through the Ola app. The incident reportedly took place on Wednesday when she and her friend each booked a car through the app.

According to the woman, the situation escalated after her friend canceled her ride. “I arrived first, so my friend canceled her car. The other driver angrily followed us, despite our explanation. He started shouting and cursing at us,” she shared in a post on the social media platform “X.”

About the incident

In the video shared on social media, the woman reported that the driver insulted her after they cancelled the booking. She said he got angry and made derogatory remarks. When we started recording the argument, the driver became more aggressive. “I told him I would report him, but he didn't seem to care. He tried to snatch my phone from me and when I resisted, he hit me in front of my driver and the passersby who did nothing.”

Meanwhile, Ola, the ride-sharing company through which the victim booked the car, responded to the incident and said that the case is being thoroughly investigated. “This sounds quite concerning. Don't worry, we are here to help you with this,” Ola support replied to the woman's post on “X”.

Driver arrested

Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) S. Girish confirmed that the driver had been arrested by the Magadi Road Police and that legal action would be initiated.

Deputy Director General of Police (Traffic and Road Safety) Alok Kumar also addressed the issue and termed the driver's behaviour “unacceptable”. He also assured that appropriate action would be taken and said, “Some people like him are giving the motoring community a bad name.”
