Kapil Parmar: India's first Paralympic judo medallist overcomes adversity

In a historic moment for India, Kapil Parmar secured the country's first Paralympic medal in judo by winning bronze in the men's 60kg (J1) category. Parmar delivered a stellar performance, defeating Brazil's Elielton de Oliveira 10-0 in the bronze medal match.

The victory is a remarkable achievement for Parmar, who had earlier lost 10-0 to S Banitaba Khorram Abadi of Iran in the semifinals. It is noteworthy that the athletes in the J1 category have visual impairments and wear red circles during competitions to provide them with guidance.

Parmar hails from Shivor, MP and his journey is one of resilience. After a childhood accident, he was in a coma for six months. Despite financial difficulties, he devoted himself to judo with unwavering determination, supported by his mentor and brother Lalit.
