A new documentary by Billy Henrickle tells of friendship, adversity and ambition

Billy Henrickle's latest documentary, Right Here Right Now, documents the inspirational journey of two close friends and avid mountain bikers, Toby Cortez and Steve Scuderi. The film follows their adventures across the USA in search of the best mountain biking destinations and their dream of creating world-famous trails in their home state of southern Louisiana.

The story takes a dramatic turn when Toby's wife falls ill, forcing him to put his passion on hold and focus on his family. During these difficult years, Toby and Steve lose touch. A decade later, just as Toby's wife is recovering, fate strikes again. Steve suffers a serious motorcycle accident and his recovery is uncertain. Despite the grim prognosis, Steve defies the odds and within a few months is back on his motorcycle with Toby by his side.

Fueled by their renewed bond, the friends embark on an ambitious project: to create a state-of-the-art mountain biking destination at Bogue Chitto State Park in Franklinton, Louisiana. Toby leads fundraising and works with local politicians, while Steve designs and builds the courses, which include challenging jumps, massive drops, and beginner-friendly trails. Their efforts culminate in a world-class mountain bike park that exceeds expectations and achieves what many thought was impossible.

The documentary itself came about when filmmaker Billy Henrickle reconnected with Steve Scuderi after nearly 30 years. Intrigued by her story, Billy decided to document her remarkable journey. He took on the role of writer, producer and director and commissioned Mission Media Productions, a nonprofit organization associated with the New Orleans Mission, to film and edit the project. This collaboration not only brought together a talented team, but also supported a local charity.

Right Here Right Now is now streaming on Amazon, with a portion of proceeds benefiting Bogue Chitto State Park. A testament to friendship, resilience, and the relentless pursuit of dreams, this documentary offers viewers a powerful and heartwarming story of overcoming adversity and achieving greatness against all odds.

Henrickle's approach to filmmaking is characterized by his dedication to capturing the essence of his protagonists' experiences. His work on Right Here Right Now is an example of this, as he delves deeply into the personal and emotional journeys of Toby and Steve. The film not only shows their physical struggles, but also the emotional and psychological hurdles they overcame.
