Cristiano Ronaldo on his future in Portugal: “When the time comes, I will move on,” says striker

Portuguese football star Cristiano Ronaldo says he has no plans to retire from the national team yet, but when the time comes, the decision will “not be difficult.”

The 39-year-old has scored more goals than anyone else in the history of international men's football, with 130 goals in 212 matches.

He is in Portugal’s squad for the Nations League matches against Croatia and Scotland.

But Ronaldo comes into these games after a hugely disappointing Euro 2024 campaign in which he failed to score and many felt he held the team back.

The Manchester United and Real Madrid legend now plays for Al-Nassr in Saudi Arabia.

“When the time comes, I will move on,” he said. “The decision will not be difficult.”

“When I feel like I have nothing more to contribute, I’m the first to leave.”

The five-time Ballon d'Or winner says he “never thought about leaving the national team” despite the criticism after the 2024 European Championship.

Ronaldo and teammate Pepe were the two oldest players at the 2024 European Championship at 41 years of age.
