On Thursday, US authorities announced renewed sanctions against Russian media outlets, including RT, claiming they are “malicious” government-sponsored attempts to manipulate public opinion in America ahead of the November presidential election.

The new measures include charging two Russians identified as RT employees with alleged conspiracy to launder money, as well as blacklisting 10 individuals and two companies with the subsequent freezing of their property and assets in the US. A new visa restriction policy has also been introduced for individuals Washington says have acted on behalf of the Russian government.

RT editor-in-chief Margarita Simonyan, who was among those blacklisted, had previously mocked Washington for again claiming that the broadcaster was trying to interfere in the US elections. Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said the measures indicated an “irreversible erosion” of democratic values ​​in the United States and its “transformation into a totalitarian neoliberal dictatorship.”
