GetGo car crashed into wall in right lane while entering KPE tunnel after bonnet suddenly opened – Mothership.SG

A GetGo rental car was driving towards the city towards the Kallang-Paya Lebar Expressway (KPE) tunnel when it crashed into the wall.

This happened after the hood of the car suddenly opened, probably blocking the driver's view.

Footage of the incident, which occurred around 8:30 p.m. on September 1, was shared online.

Which video was shown?

The video was recorded by the dashboard camera of another road user who was driving behind the GetGo car, a Ssangyong Tivoli.

The moment the car entered the tunnel, you could see its hood open and remain in that upright position.

The GetGo car's brake lights came on quickly and erratically, as it appeared the driver's view was blocked while he tapped the brakes to stop the vehicle.

Within a few seconds, the GetGo car slowed down, veered to the right and crashed into the tunnel wall.

The driver behind the GetGo car was able to brake before overtaking from the left.

GetGo response

In response to MothershipWhen asked, a GetGo spokesperson stated that they were aware of the incident and had “conducted a thorough investigation.”

“Based on the results of our inspection, we would like to report that there are no defects in the vehicle,” the spokesman added.

The extent of the damage to the vehicle was not disclosed.

Comprehensive insurance (CDW)

The excess, which is the amount the driver has to pay out of pocket in the event of an accident involving a GetGo car, is between S$3,300 and S$16,500, depending on the cause of the accident, the driver's experience and the type of vehicle used.

The excess is halved if the driver opts for the Collision Damage Waiver (CDW), which is additional insurance coverage that reduces the excess in the event of an accident.

GetGo drivers who opt for CDW will be charged an additional 5% of their total booking fee.
