News from Tamil Nadu: A 31-year-old doctor has been arrested for sexually assaulting minor girls in a hostel of a government-aided school in Trichy, where his mother is the headmistress. The All-Women Police Station (AWPS) in Trichy Fort, Trichy, arrested the accused, citing sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

It is particularly noteworthy that the accused's mother, the school's principal, was also taken into custody for allegedly helping to cover up the crimes. They were remanded in custody for three days.

Following the call, the district's child protection officer and other officials conducted interviews with the students. Subsequent interviews revealed that the defendant had been assaulting students for several months.

Earlier, two four-year-olds were sexually harassed by school staff in a similar incident at their school in Badlapur, Maharashtra. The case of alleged sexual assault sparked widespread outrage across the state and led to numerous protests across the country.
