After knife attack – attacker dies after being shot by police

Bonn/Cologne. After a knife attack on two people in Bonn's northern district, the suspected attacker died in hospital after being shot by police. This was confirmed by the Cologne police headquarters, which was investigating for reasons of neutrality. The “Bild” and “General-Anzeiger Bonn” newspapers had previously reported this.

The suspected perpetrator, whose identity has not yet been disclosed, fled after the attack and was arrested by the police near a fast food restaurant. The police shot the attacker, a police spokesman told the German Press Agency. No further information about the incident was initially available.

Police suspect dispute in homeless community

The police currently assume that the attack this morning was a dispute between acquaintances in the homeless community and not a shooting spree, said the police spokesman.

According to the information available so far, the suspected attacker slightly injured a 43-year-old woman and seriously injured a 32-year-old man with a knife on the street in Bonn, but not life-threateningly. Both were treated by rescue workers and then taken to hospital. A helicopter was also used in the search for the perpetrator.
