Scottish police officer sacked for ‘sexual conduct towards a child’

A Scottish police officer was dismissed from service earlier this year after being accused of sexual misconduct towards a child.

The case was one of eight mentioned in a Scottish Police Authority report involving officers charged with gross misconduct in the first three months of the year.

Three officers – including one accused of sexual misconduct with a child – were fired, one was demoted, two received a final warning and two resigned before their hearings.

The allegations investigated ranged from inciting unwanted sexual contact to assaulting a colleague outside of working hours.

The report also states that three officers appeared in court. One was found guilty of threatening and abusive behaviour and another of other offences.

The officer was accused in court of sexual misconduct against a child.

The Scottish Police Authority report states: “An officer was dismissed for inappropriate sexual conduct towards a child.”

“The case was brought to court and the charges were found unproven.

“Police Scotland have a clear responsibility to protect children and young people and there is no justification for harming the most vulnerable in our society.

“The organisation does not tolerate this behaviour and any police officer or member of police staff who commits crimes against children or young people will be dealt with swiftly and decisively.”
