In the early morning hours of August 17, JBSA-Lackland security officers said they returned fire on gunmen attempting to enter the main gate of the JBSA-Chapman training building.

San Antonio police said the first incident occurred around 2:15 a.m. Saturday.

Air Force security officers working at the entrance gate at the corner of Ray Ellison Boulevard and Medina Base Road told police they heard several more gunshots in addition to the shots fired at them.

After the first incident, SAPD announced that additional armed Air Force security officers had been stationed at the entrance gate as a precautionary measure.

At about 4:30 a.m., a vehicle stopped on Medina Base Road east of the JBSA-Chapman Training Annex gate, according to base officials.

Shots were fired at Air Force security officers for the second time, police said. The security officers then returned fire on the suspects' vehicle.

According to SAPD, no injuries were reported in the incident. The base said the shooters had no military ties.
