NEW DELHI: A woman from UP was allegedly attacked by the driver and helper of a private ambulance she hired them to take them terminally ill husband home, police said Wednesday. The suspects also turned off her husband's oxygen supply, which authorities said led to his death.
“We have filed a case against the woman based on the complaint filed in the incident. Our teams are trying to arrest the accused,” said Jitendra Kumar Dubey, deputy commissioner of police (north), Lucknow.
In her complaint, she stated that the driver stopped the ambulance in Basti district, about 150 kilometres from the destination, and dragged her, her brother and her husband out of the vehicle when she resisted their advances.
The woman approached the local police, who arranged another ambulance to take her husband to Gorakhpur Medical College, where he was declared dead on arrival.
The woman's husband was undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Lucknow, but due to financial constraints, she decided to discharge him and arranged for a private ambulance to take him home on the evening of August 29.
