Lamar Jackson shocks MVP predictions for 2024

Lamar Jackson shocks MVP predictions for 2024

MMQB predictions include Kyle Hamilton for DPOY, Derrick Henry for OPOY

The MMQB staff also gave their predictions for the other individual awards and the postseason. Here's a look at the picks involving the Ravens:

Super Bowl: Ravens 27, Rams 23; Lamar Jackson MVP

Defensive Player of the Year: S Kyle Hamilton

“Earlier this summer, the MMQB team predicted which teams would win the next five Super Bowls. I was one of only two people to pick the Ravens (which surprised me) and the only one to pick the Rams (which didn't surprise me). I stand by my opinion that these are stable franchises with good coaching staffs and front offices that can compete multiple times over the next five years. I like them both in the short term, too. I think the Ravens are bound to break out and win one of these years with Lamar Jackson, so why not in a season where they could catch the Chiefs on the spot while trying to get to a third straight win, a season after getting back to the Super Bowl was already so arduous? Despite some departures on defense, the Ravens are still as dangerous as any team. If the Bills take a step back and the Texans' ascent to perpetual contender status doesn't quite lead to the promised land, Baltimore can get back to being the No. 1 at the top of the AFC.”

Offensive Player of the Year: RB Derrick Henry

“Put your money on the old running back. Derrick Henry may be 30 years old, but the years of relative inactivity early in his career with the Titans seem to have prolonged his productivity. And in Baltimore, Henry will see the ball a lot in one of the league's most powerful running attacks. If he stays healthy, I wouldn't be surprised to see Henry run for 1,500 yards and push for another running title.”

Super Bowl: Packers 34, Ravens 23; Jordan Love best player

“In the AFC, the Chiefs have found a way in recent years, whether through brilliant quarterback play or an opportunistic defense, but I think their luck is going to run out this year. No, I don't think it has anything to do with Patrick Mahomes fading or Travis Kelce getting old or Taylor Swift's presence or whatever; simply that this is the year that the best regular-season team in recent years – the Ravens – pulls it off in the playoffs. It's their time.”

Bold prediction: The Ravens will miss the playoffs even with the arrival of Derrick Henry. With seven new playoff teams in my field, I had to make some tough decisions about last year's top teams. Baltimore seems like a team set up for a down year due to a lack of depth at wide receiver and question marks on the offensive line, which lost three starters from 2023. Signing Henry was supposed to be the missing piece of the puzzle for the Ravens, but then they created other holes on the roster. It also doesn't help that Henry is in his 30th season and his body is heavily worn down from his productive seasons with the Tennessee Titans. Let's not forget the difficult schedule and the loss of former defensive coordinator Mike Macdonald, now head coach of the Seahawks. The Ravens will fight for a playoff spot because they have Lamar Jackson, but in the end it could fall apart due to all of the obstacles mentioned above.”
