Manipur Rifles Jawan commits suicide while on guard duty in Chandel district

Imphal, September 4: In a tragic incident, 29-year-old Divi Lawai Lamkang, a soldier of the Manipur Rifles, allegedly shot himself with his service rifle while on guard duty in Chandel district.

The incident occurred around 9.30pm at the barracks along the India-Myanmar border where Lamkang was stationed.

Other soldiers resting inside heard the gunshot and rushed to the scene. They found Lamkang's body lying in a pool of blood at the gate. His service weapon was found nearby.

A team from Chandel police station accompanied by forensic experts conducted an investigation and the body was sent to JNIMS, Imphal East for post-mortem. The police have launched an investigation to ascertain the circumstances leading to the incident.
