On Tuesday evening, a motorcyclist collided with a car at an intersection right next to Theresienwiese. The traffic disruption led to another motorcycle accident in the immediate vicinity.

Press release from the Munich Fire Department in full:

Munich – A 25-year-old man collided with a BMW while crossing Hans-Fischer-Straße at about 50 km/h and was seriously injuredThe collision caused considerable damage to the front of the car and the windshield. The 25-year-old sustained several extremity injuries, the driver of the BMW remained uninjuredThe resulting traffic obstructions led to a traffic jam, which was repeatedly made worse by very slow-moving vehicles. Several road users braked hard in order to get a look at the accident.

Subsequent accident in slow-moving traffic

Before all emergency services arrived, another accident occurred in the stopped traffic, again between a motorcycle and a car. This time they collided sideways. The 40-year-old motorcyclist was moderately injured. The badly damaged helmet obviously prevented more serious head injuries. This time too, the occupant of the car involved remained unharmed.

The emergency services were on site with two ambulances and an emergency doctor as well as the operations management. A rescue fire engine from the professional fire brigade assisted with patient care and securing the accident site.

Motorcyclist in hospital

Both motorcyclists had to be transported to the emergency rooms of Munich hospitals; their lives were not in danger. Several police patrols were needed to direct traffic, and the accident squad was called in to determine the cause. The fire department is unable to quantify the material damage. According to the police, the material damage amounts to several tens of thousands of euros. The police are investigating the exact cause of the accident.
