Stroke: Drama surrounding Queen guitarist Brian May

Queen guitarist Brian May has announced that he has suffered a stroke that has left him without the use of his arm

The 77-year-old legendary musician, astrophysicist and animal rights activist announced his stroke in a video shared on his personal website. May appears alert and healthy despite the “scary” medical incident, but said he was still able to play guitar after what he called his “little health hiccup.”

“I'm here to give you some good news. The good news is that after the events of the last few days, I can play the guitar again,” he said, twisting his fingers for emphasis in the video. A week ago, the music legend suffered a mild stroke.

The We Will Rock You author explained that the incident left him temporarily without the use of his left arm – but that he had a “very exciting” ambulance ride to Frimley Hospital in Surrey. May praised staff there for the “most fantastic care” they gave him.

“All of a sudden, out of the blue, I had no control over that arm anymore, so it was a bit scary, I have to say,” he continued. He also thanked everyone for the many get-well wishes.

It was not the first health scare for Brian May. In 2020, he suffered a heart attack while recovering from a torn muscle and a pinched nerve that he sustained while gardening.
