Latest news on the Ukraine war: Putin bombs town near the border, killing seven people – Poland activates air defense | World news

Welcome back to our live coverage of the Ukraine war.

Yesterday, Russia carried out one of the deadliest attacks of the war when it hit a military academy and a nearby hospital in the central Russian city of Poltava with two ballistic missiles, killing at least 51 people and wounding 271 others.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy said last night that there were still people under the rubble and that everything was being done to save as many lives as possible.

Earlier that day, he had stated that “Russian scum” would be held accountable for the deadly attack.

The region has been mourning the attack for three days, and Russia has not yet commented on it.

Less than a day after the Poltova attack, Ukrainian authorities said Russia had launched an airstrike on the northeastern region of Sumy, hitting a university building. There were no immediate reports of casualties.

Elsewhere, Vladimir Putin received a red carpet welcome when he visited Mongolia on his first trip to a member state of the International Criminal Court.

The generous visit came despite the International Criminal Court issuing an arrest warrant for Putin for alleged war crimes. Member countries are required to arrest suspects, but Mongolia said this would be too difficult because it is dependent on energy from Russia.

Stay tuned as we bring you the latest news all day today.
