A six-year-old boy was allegedly sexually abused by his 35-year-old neighbour in southeast Delhi’s Govindpuri area, officials said on Wednesday, September 4, 2024.

“The matter came to light on Tuesday (September 3) when the boy alleged that he was touched inappropriately by the neighbour on Sunday,” they said.

A case was registered under the POCSO Act and the accused Balram Dass alias Kalu was arrested on Tuesday evening.

When the police team took Kalu to the police station, many people gathered and tried to attack the accused and the police personnel.

However, the police managed to bring the accused safely to the police station. Later, a crowd gathered at the gate of Govind Puri police station demanding action against the accused.

Senior officials arrived at the scene and calmed the people by assuring them of tough action against the accused.

Giving details of the case, a police official said the boy's family contacted local police on September 1 to report that the six-year-old was missing.

However, the boy was tracked down by his family after a few hours and brought to the police station. The boy was medically examined at AIIMS the same day and shifted to the Boys Care Home in Lajpat Nagar.

“The family had not alleged any sexual assault until Monday,” police said in a statement.

“On Tuesday, the boy's statement was recorded before a judge and he said nothing incriminating,” it said.

“However, when he was brought before the Child Protection Committee, he claimed that the accused had touched him inappropriately,” it said.
